
ORANGE COUNTY FIRE AUTHORITY units responded to a report of a possible hazardous material incident in West Garden Grove Tuesday night (OCFA photo).
Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority responded to a possible hazardous materials incident in Garden Grove Tuesday night around 9 p.m.
According to the OCFA, the location of the “dump of an unknown substance” was at Valley View Avenue and Lampson Avenue, near the 99 Cent store.
The substance was tested and determined to be non-hazardous. The OCFA provides fire and emergency medical service to the City of Garden Grove.
Five students initiated into Phi Kappa Phi
Five college students from the West Orange County area have been recognized by being initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest honor society for all academic disciplines.

- Tam Tran of Garden Grove at CSU Fullerton.
Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 as an honor society that recognized academic fields.
Alums of the group include President Jimmy Carter, NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence, novelist John Grisham and Chad Hurley, founder of YouTube.
Anaheim police investigate murder
The shooting death of a 51-year-old man at a hotel in Anaheim is being investigated by police.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, Todd Megna of Orange was fatally shot Tuesday morning at the Anaheim Lodge, located at 837 S. Beach Blvd. between Ball Road and Orange Avenue.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the APD at (714) 765-1900.
