New OC cases of coronavirus plunge

The number of confirmed new cases of the coronavirus in Orange County plunged with Tuesday’s tally. Just 29 were reported to the Orange County Health Care Agency, a steep drop from 38 on Monday’s tally and 71 on Sunday. That brings the cumulative count to 1,691.

There were no deaths reported, leaving the to-date total of fatalities at 33.

One hundred and forty-eight cases are currently hospitalized with 54 in intensive care units.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the county’s coronavirus fatality rate is at 1.97 percent, compared to that of the State of California with 3.64.

In the count of cases by city, Anaheim remains the community with the most confirmed COVID-19 infections with 215, followed by Santa Ana with 174, Huntington Beach with 148, Irvine with 118 and Newport Beach with 88.

In The Tribune’s coverage area, after Huntington Beach is Garden Grove with 65, there’s Westminster with 24 and Stanton with 14.
