The recent steep rise in the number of reported confirmed coronavirus cases in Orange County was reversed by Friday’s deep drop.
According to the county’s health care agency, today’s count shows just 33 new cases, compared to 68 on Thursday and 66 on Wednesday.
(Note: The case counts change from day to day as statistics are revised. Thursday’s count was originally 78).
Changes in the numbers may not reflect accurately the sum of new infections but rather the volume of testing for COVID-19. The cumulative total is 1,845 since the OCHCA started to count in February.
No new deaths were in Friday’s count; the total now is 36.
Tests reported today were at 1,267. The cumulative count is at 22,083.
Cases hospitalized are at 150, with 63 persons in intensive care units.
Anaheim continues to be the city with the most reported cases with 247, followed by Santa Ana with 211, then Huntington Beach (162), Irvine (120) and Newport Beach (91).
In the coverage area of The Tribune, after Huntington Beach, Garden Grove has 75 confirmed cases, followed by Westminster with 32 and Stanton with 16.
