Record-high new COVID-19 cases

THE GREATEST increase in confirmed coronavirus cases in Orange County since the tally began was reported on Saturday (EpicTop10.com)

As the number of people tested for coronavirus rises, the number of confirmed cases are increasing too. The sharpest rise in new cases in the county since the tally began was reported Saturday by the Orange County Health Care Agency.

One hundred and twenty-four new cases is the latest OCHCA count, bringing the cumulative cases to date to 1,969.

The previous high count was 104 on April 1.

Two more deaths were reported, raising the total fatalities from COVID-19 to 38.

The county reported 1,202 new tests, bringing the OC count to 23,285.  The number of new confirmed cases may reflect an increase in testing rather than an increase in new cases.

One hundred fifty-nine cases are now hospitalized, with 70 in intensive care units in Orange County hospitals.

On a city-by-city basis, Anaheim remains the leader is new cases with 265, followed by Santa Ana (241), Huntington Beach (174), Irvine (125) and Newport Beach (93).

In The Tribune’s coverage area, after Huntington Beach comes Garden Grove (80), Westminster (35) and Stanton (18).
