OC coronavirus death toll at 44 cases

Two more deaths from the coronavirus in Orange County were reported Wednesday.

According to the county health care agency, the total count of dead related to COVID-19 is now 44.

New cases reported in Wednesday’s OCHCA count are 108 (up from 34), bringing the cumulative cases to 2,252 for the OC. One hundred seventy five people are hospitalized with coronavirus with 70 in intensive care units.

Wednesday’s numbers followed three days of declining new cases.

On a city-by-city basis, Santa Ana continues to have the most confirmed cases with 330, followed by Anaheim with 316. Next is Huntington Beach with 214, then Irvine with 126, and then Garden Grove with 99.

No numbers yet on recall recount

The recount process for the April 7 Westminster city council recall election hasn’t resulted yet in any numbers.

The Orange County Registrar of Voters indicated that “review of relevant material [is] underway” and that “no physical recount of ballots” taking place on Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday are listed as potential days for the recount.

All three Westminster council members targeted in the recall survived with comfortable margins.

OCTA to plug in new buses

A step toward cleaner air was taken this week by the Orange County Transportation Authority as its board of directors approved seeking quotes for 10 plug-in electric battery buses. Earlier this year the OCTA debuted 10 hydrogen fuel cell electric buses.

“We continue to lead the way toward a cleaner and greener future that will provide reliable transportation while producing zero emissions and making the air we breathe even cleaner,” said OCTA Chairman Steve Jones, who is also the mayor of Garden Grove.

Telephone democracy in Stanton

A special meeting of the Stanton City Council will be held “telephonically” on Thursday.

The council will convene at 3 p.m. via telephone to take on a light agenda, with a closed session that includes a public employee performance evaluation and conferences with legal council on existing and anticipated legislation.
