A suspect in a residential burglary was arrested in the early morning Sunday by Garden Grove police.

According to Sgt. Charles Starnes of the GGPD, the incident started at 1:16 a.m. when officers were called to the 12200 block of Chapman Avenue – between West Street and Harbor Boulevard – to investigate a burglary in progress.

The resident reported that the suspect – identified as a male Hispanic – broke into the apartment but fled when confronted.

Arriving officers did a search of the area and were unable to locate the suspect until a citizen told police of a “suspicious” person who lived in the area. The citizen told police where the suspect lived, which was close by in Garden Grove.

Officers went to the address and the door was answered by a man who matched the description given by resident. The suspect was detained and later positively identified by the victim in the burglary, according to Sgt. Starnes.

Anyone with information concerning this or any additional crimes is encouraged to contact the GGPD at (714) 741-5872.
