REGAL CINEMAS is an anchor to The Promenade shopping center at Brookhurst Street and Chapman Avenue in Garden Grove. Next week the planning commission will consider approval of an indoor kids’ playground with arcade games and food service to the west of the theater complex (File photo).

Two proposed additions to The Promenade shopping center will go to the Garden Grove Planning Commission when it meets on Thursday, June 18.

An indoor playground with arcade games and food service called Little World would occupy a now-vacant 14,000-square foot space immediately to the west of the Regal 16 movie theater. The space was formerly the site of Factory 2 You, a discount clothing store.

The new operation would be similar to a Chuck E. Cheese; there’s one of those located on Harbor Boulevard south of Garden Grove Boulevard in Harbor Plaza.

The applicant, L & L Kids Entertainment, LLC is asking for a conditional use permit, a variance and a favorable interpretation of allowed uses under city codes.
Also, the panel will consider a proposal for the construction of a new, 4,200 square foot one-story bank building for Citibank in The Promenade facing Chapman Avenue, next to the See’s Candies.

The applicant, HGGA Promenade LP, is asking for site plan approval and a lot line adjustment.

The mall is almost 30 acres, fronting along Chapman Avenue between Brookhurst and Gilbert streets at the northwest of Chapman and Brookhurst.

Also on the agenda are:

  • a permit to allow a change in operating hours and parking lot size for the MAP sports facility at Western Avenue and Western Avenue;
  • allowing the Target department store at Chapman and Harbor to convert its former garden center space to a location to store its stock and, in a separate action, approve an upgrading of the store’s liquor license;
  • a conditional use permit to allow the operation of a new trade school at 8100 Garden Grove Blvd.

The commission meets at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
