A two-car collision Friday morning in Santa Ana injured three people and took the life of an unborn child.

According to the SAPD, the incident was reported at 9:46 a.m. regarding a collision at First Street and Lacy Street. Santa Ana police and Orange County Fire Authority personnel responded and began to treat the injured parties. Each of them was  hospitalized and one of them, a woman who was eight months pregnant, underwent emergency surgery. The fetus was pronounced deceased as a result of the collision.

The preliminary investigation indicated that one of the vehicles was traveling east on First, making a left turn onto Lacy. A second vehicle, traveling west on First at “a high rate of speed,” struck the first vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle fled on foot before police arrived. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but speed is believed to be a factor.

Anyone having information about this incident is asked to contact Investigator Corporal Danny Carrillo at (714) 245-8208 or the SAPD Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
