Virus counts now over 1,000 daily

For the fifth consecutive day, the count of reported new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County topped 1,000.

According to the county health agency, Friday’s total was at 1,133, bringing the cumulative total to 22,650.  Of that, 9,759 are considered to have recovered.

Ten more deaths were reported as well, bringing that number to 412. Half of that amount – 206 – is for residents of skilled nursing facilities. Fifteen are from assisted living facilities and two were homeless people.

Six hundred seventy-two cases are now hospitalized, with 227 now in intensive care units.

The key measurement of “testing positivity” (the percentage of those tested who are “positive” for the virus) is at 14.7, up from Thursday’s 14.3. Ten percent or less is considered the threshold.

Today’s count by city shows the top five cities in number of cases. Deaths are in parentheses:

  • Santa Ana: 4,318 (116).
  • Anaheim: 3,994 (46).
  • Garden Grove: 1,186 (13).
  • Huntington Beach: 1,117 (42).
  • Orange: 1,051 (16).

Also, Westminster has 435 cases and 12 deaths; Stanton has 253 cases and three deaths.
