Santa Ana police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a 40-year-old Santa Ana man.

JUAN MARTINEZ

According to the SAPD, Juan Yepez Martinez, 31, also a Santa Ana resident, confessed to the killing of Carlos Sanchez Benitez on Monday. Detectives executed a search warrant which turned up a rifle that police believe was used in the killing. The motive is said to be an “ongoing personal conflict.”

The incident began early Monday morning when a male was discovered slumped behind the wheel of an automobile in the 500 block of South Flower Street. He had suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body. Paramedics pronounced the man – later identified as Benitez – at 12:42 a.m.

Martinez was charged with one count of murder and was booked into the Santa Ana Detention Facility.
