A 2-year-old Garden Grove boy was in intensive care at an area hospital after a near-drowning Wednesday morning.
According to Sgt. Juan Centeno of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident took place just before 9 a.m. in the 13000 block of Simmons Ave. That’s west of Harbor Boulevard and north of Chapman Avenue, near the Embassy Suites hotel.
Officers responded to a report of a child drowning, as did paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority. They rendered aid to the child and he was transported to a local hospital.
Police learned that the child had fallen into a backyard pool. He walked through an open pool gate and fell in. The homeowner was awakened when the child’s father came looking for the boy.
The child was pulled unconscious from the pool and given CPR until OCFA paramedics took over. An investigation is ongoing.
