Barber shops and hair salons in Orange County may open today against a background of improving reports on the coronavirus pandemic. Indoor shopping malls may open, but only with 25 percent maximum capacity, a rule that would apply primarily in Wet Orange County to Westminster Mall.

In Monday’s report from the county health care agency, the number of daily COVID-19 cases dropped to 94, a steep decline from 254 on Sunday. Just one death was reported four in Sunday’s report.

The cumulative total of coronavirus cases in the OC is at 48,538, of which 41,286 are considered recovered. The total number of deaths is at 980.

Three hundred seventeen cases are hospitalized with 98 in intensive care units. That’s compared to 329 and 99 on Sunday.

The “test positivity” metric – a key measurement toward allowing moving a county from one tier to a less restrictive level – rose slightly from 4.8 percent on Sunday to 4.9 percent Monday. The OC is currently on the ninth day of being off the county monitoring list; the goal is 21.

Here is a list of OC cities with the most cases, and two other area cities. Deaths are marked in parentheses.

  • Santa Ana: 9,394 (237).
  • Anaheim: 8,346 (220).
  • Garden Grove: 2,638 (62).
  • Huntington Beach: 2,218 (63).
  • Orange: 2,209 (46).

Westminster has 936 cases and 23 deaths; Stanton has 606 cases and 10 deaths.
