Man is fatally shot by police

AN ANAHEIM resident was fatally shot by police Saturday and died Sunday morning. Police say he wielded a knife vs. officers (Shutterstock).

A 25-year-old Anaheim resident sought for felony sexual assault died Sunday morning from a gunshot wound inflicted by police Saturday night.

According to the APD, police went to the 2500 block of East Ward Terrace in Anaheim after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday to locate Jesse David Nava, who was wanted on a warrant. Officers found Nava, who was armed with a large kitchen knife. In the confrontation that followed, Nava was struck at least one time by gunfire.

He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he underwent emergency surgery. He died of his injuries at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The case will be investigated by both the city ‘s Office of Independent Review and the Orange County District Attorney’s office.

Video footage of the incident was captured on body cameras worn by the officers.
