Planners look at stadium project

THE PROPOSED STADIUM DISTRICT at Katella Avenue and State College Boulevard will get a look Wednesday by the Anaheim City Council (Courtesy of SRB Management).

A “virtual” town hall meeting on the proposed future of the Angel Stadium property in Anaheim will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 5 to 6 p.m.

A part of the proposal will be presented to the Anaheim Planning Commission on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The “Stadium District” proposal, located in the area of State College Boulevard and Katella Avenue,  calls for the creation of a mixed-use community consisting of:

  • up to 5,175 residential units;
  • 1.75 million square feet of commercial uses (including up to 943 new hotel rooms);
  • 2.7 million square feet of office space;
  • public parks up to 13.2 acres and;
  • a site for a new fire station.

The agreement with the city also calls for the retention and maintenance of the existing stadium – built in 1966 – with an option to replace it with a new facility of the same approximate size and seating capacity. It’s the home field of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Tuesday’s town hall meeting will be held via Zoom. The meeting ID is 899 0960 4282 and the password is 743685.

Other town hall meetings are set for Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to noon and Thursday, Sept. 24 from 5-6 p.m.

Final approval of the complete project will be up to the city council. The developer is SRB Management Company, LLC, of which Angels owner Arte Moreno is a principal.
