Woman dies after car hits pole

A WOMAN died after the car in which she was riding struck a utility pole Sunday evening in Garden Grove (Shutterstock).

A one-car accident took the life of a woman and injured a man Sunday evening in Garden Grove.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority, the incident took place just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Trask Avenue. The woman has been identified as Salena Hernandez of Pomona.

A vehicle traveling northbound on Brookhurst crashed into a traffic signal pole. According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the Garden Grove Police Department, the vehicle had a solid green light before veering and hitting the pole on the northeast corner of the intersection. The 41-year-old woman passenger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. The 42-year-old male driver was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

An investigation into the crash will seek to determine the cause of the accident. Witnesses are asked to call GGPD Traffic Investigator Paul Ashby at (714) 741-5823.
