The Hyundai car dealership in Garden Grove has received approval to upgrade and grow its operation.
On a 4-0 vote Thursday night (with two commissioners absent and one vacancy) the city planning commission approved a site plan to expand the existing dealership showroom and service center. The remodel would include enclosing and expanding the existing open-air drive-up area; expanding the showroom and customer service building; adding a new approximately 700-square foot vehicle pickup canopy and remodeling the building’s existing façade.
In total, about 3,000 square feet of existing building area will be enclosed and about 500 square feet added.
The dealership is branded Russell Westbrook Hyundai of Garden Grove, named for the Long Beach native who starred in basketball at UCLA and has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets in the NBA. He won the league’s Most Valuable Player award for the 2016-17 season.
Formerly known as Garden Grove Hyundai, the dealership is in the city’s auto mall along Trask Avenue at Brookhurst Street.
