At a special meeting Tuesday evening, the Stanton City Council approved agreements for the operation and development of two motels which will serve as shelters and resource centers for the homeless.

The vote was 4-1, with Mayor David Shawver casting the dissenting vote.

The council passed  two agreements with affiliates of Jamboree Housing Corporation to convert the Tahiti Motel and the Stanton Inn and Suites for interim and supportive housing for the unsheltered. The deal would be in place for “five and fifty-five” years.

The Tahiti Motel is located at 11850 Beach Blvd., north of Chapman Avenue. The Stanton Inn and Suites is at 7161 Katella Ave., east of Knott Street.
