COVID-19 numbers still high

The predicted “dark winter” of coronavirus may be showing its face in Orange County as new cases and other measurements of the COVID-19 pandemic remain high.

According to Wednesday’s report from the county health care agency, there were 1,199 new cases, a sharp increase from Tuesday’s 837. Deaths rose to three from two.

Hospitalizations slipped slightly from 483 to 479, but those numbers remain among the highest since the initial outbreak in March and April for Orange County. The same is true for the number of persons in intensive care units, going from 116 to 115.

The cumulative number of cases reported in Orange County to-date is at 73,132, of which 56,608 are considered recovered. The death toll is at 1,559.

Here is a list of the cities in the county with the most cases. Deaths are in parentheses.

  • Santa Ana: 14,038 (325)
  • Anaheim: 12,362 (342)
  • Garden Grove: 4,139 (115)
  • Fullerton: 3,508 (111)
  • Orange: 3,465 (72)
  • Huntington Beach: 3,147 (88)

Westminster has 1,537 cases and 31 deaths. Stanton has 859 cases and 18 deaths.
