Cases drop, but other stats rise

THURSDAY’S COUNT of hospitalizations from coronavirus cases in Orange County dropped but other stats rose (Shutterstock).

The number of new cases of coronavirus declined in Thursday’s report from the Orange County Health Care Agency, but deaths, hospitalizations and patients in intensive care units all rose.

New COVID-19 infections reported to the OCHCA fell from a record-high of 2,613 on Wednesday to 1,521 today. However, deaths climbed from zero to seven. Patients in hospitals because of coronavirus hit an historic peak at 1,025, up from 974 the day before. Those in ICU units also set a record, climbing from 239 to 257.

The ICU availability rate for the Southern California Region (which includes Orange County) is down to 7.7 percent (adjusted). The goal is 15 percent.

Here is a list of the OC cities with the most cases. Deaths are in parentheses.

  • Santa Ana: 18,452 (338)
  • Anaheim: 15,925 (354)
  • Garden Grove: 5,684 (118)
  • Fullerton: 4,533 (118)
  • Orange: 4,497 (75)
  • Huntington Beach: 3,920 (93).

Westminster has 2,231 cases and 35 deaths. Stanton has 1,163 cases and 18 deaths.
