Note: Correcting the date of the meeting.
A public hearing is scheduled for the Feb. 18 meeting of the Garden Grove Planning Commission on the creation of a new shopping center to be anchored by the Sprouts Farmers’ grocery store.
The applicant, EPD Solutions, Inc. is proposing to demolish the existing 76,000 square foot former Vons Pavilion building at 9852 Chapman Ave. (between Brookhurst Street and Gilbert Street) and construct three new buildings.
Of the three, the largest would be a 51,280-square foot building occupied in part by the Sprouts. There would also be an 11,200-square foot building for retail/restaurant use and 3,500-square foot drive-through restaurant building. The latter would face south toward Chapman, separated by the parking area from the two other structures that would back up to near the property line, alongside the existing former Pacific Electric right-of-way.
The identity of the other proposed tenants is not known at this time.
The planned new center will be called Pavilion Plaza West and will be located west of the existing Pavilion Plaza, which is anchored by a CVS Pharmacy, a Best Choice Supermarket and a Chuze Fitness gym. Across the street is The Promenade, Garden Grove’s biggest shopping center, originally opened in 1956 as Orange County Plaza.
Long-time residents may remember the building set to be torn down opened as a Zody’s discount department store in 1960. It was remodeled into a Vons Pavilions store that operated from 1985 to 2005.
The commission will meet via teleconference at 7 p.m.
