Thursday’s count of confirmed new coronavirus cases in Orange County doubled Wednesday’s tally, but remained far below the peak reached just a month ago.
The county health agency reported 336 new cases, up from 166 on Wednesday, but less than Tuesday’s total of 369, a low figure compared to the peak of 1,556 reached on Jan. 17.
Deaths were up to 41 from 27, but hospitalizations due to the coronavirus declined from 719 on Wednesday to 663 on Thursday. Use of intensive care units to treat COVID-19 patients dropped to 230 from 235.
The to-date total of Orange County coronavirus cases is now at 243,665. Of that number, 220,609 are considered recovered. The death toll is at 3,685. The test positivity rate for the county remains at 9 percent.

Westminster has had 6,806 cases and 143 deaths. Stanton has had 3,069 cases and 47 deaths.
