Re-imagined July 4 repeated?

HOME decorating contests will be a part of this year’s 4th of July event in Huntington Beach (Orange County Tribune photo).

The annual Fourth of July Parade has been a feature of each summer in Surf City until it was cancelled and re-imagined in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the advances made over the past year, a return to the original time-honored patriotic procession on Main Street in Huntington Beach isn’t in the cards this year.

On Monday, the city council will consider an action plan and agreement between the city and Soundskilz for the 2021 4th of July Celebration. The event will include a neighborhood parade, home decorating contest, Pier Plaza Festival, modified 5k run and fireworks show.

Also on the agenda for Monday are:

  • establishment of a city council ad hoc committee to perform a formal review of the city’ current boards, commission and committee structure.
  • directing city staff to analyze and assess zoning code and parking requirement adjustments to allow for outdoor dining and retail operations after the pandemic.

The council will meet in virtual session with study and closed sessions at 4 p.m. and the regular session at 6 p.m.
