A Westminster man has been arrested by the FBI on suspicion of his involvement in the Jan. 6 rioting at the U.S. Capitol.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kevin Louis Galetto, 61, is accused of assaulting a Capitol officer along with other offenses. He is charged with:
- assaulting, resisting or impeding certain federal officers or employees
- obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder
- knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, knowingly committing an act of physical violence in any restricted building or grounds
- violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
In documents filed in federal court, the FBI indicated that Galleto was identified from images posted on social media. Surveillance video and body-worn camera images from a police officer allegedly depict Galleto entering the Capitol, pushing against the officer’s shield and knocking him to the ground.
The Jan. 6 riot involved hundreds of extreme right-wing protestors who overpowered police and forced their way into the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as president and vice president of the United States.
Five people were killed, including one rioter and one police officer.
