COVID numbers are sinking

CORONAVIRUS numbers declined again in Orange County on Thursday (Shutterstock).

Coronavirus numbers continue to plunge in Orange County as all major measurements indicate the retreat of the pandemic that roiled the nation for over a year.

According to the county health care agency, new confirmed cases fell from 42 on Wednesday to 35 on Thursday, and deaths from six to three.

Hospitalizations went from 83 to 80 and patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units dropped from 18 to 15.

To-date, the new number of cases stands at 254,492, of which those considered recovered are at 247,624. The death toll is at 5,026.

Nationally, the number of new cases – over a two-week period – has declined 30 percent, reports The New York Times, and deaths are down 10 percent.  The Los Angeles Times reports that in California, new cases are down 10 percent and deaths by 5 percent.
