A 30-year-old Anaheim man was arrested Monday for the beating death of an elderly man in Anaheim.

According to the APD, David Steven Abbott is accused of killing another Anaheim resident, Rahmatolah “Davey” Yaghoubi, 70. At about 12:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of an “in-progress” assault in the intersection of Catalpa Avenue and Falmouth Avenue. They arrested Abbott and found Yaghoubi suffering from severe head trauma. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his wounds.

Detectives confirm that Abbott was the same man sought in an assault and battery about 20 minutes before. Police say that he attacked a 60-year-old man – also an Anaheim resident – and fled after inflicting minor injuries.

Abbott was on bail from his May 15 arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. He is now at Anaheim City Jail and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

Anyone who may have had contact with the suspect or been a victim of a similar attack is asked to call APD detectives at (714) 321-3669.
