New cases in Saturday increase

Confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County spiked in Saturday’s report, reversing a week’s worth of declining numbers.

According to the county health care authority, new cases went from 24 on Friday to 42. Deaths rose from three to five. Hospitalizations from the coronavirus went from 59 to 61 and patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units stayed even at 13.

To date, cases in the OC are at 255,413, with 249,283 having been considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,073. 

Nationally, The New York Times estimates that – over a 14-day period – new cases are down 47 percent and deaths 30 percent. In California, the Los Angeles Times reports that cases have declined 28 percent and deaths 16 percent over a similar period.
