Numbers show ups and downs

CORONAVIRUS statistics in Orange County have shown some progress and some retreats (Shutterstock).

Coronavirus numbers in Orange County are trending slightly upward in some categories but down in others, according to Tuesday’s report from the county health care agency.

New confirmed cases are at 44, the same as for Friday. But that’s up from 32 two weeks ago. Deaths are at two (the same as Friday), but hospitalizations total 56, up from 49 on Friday. 

Patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units are 10, up from nine on Friday, but down from 15 two weeks ago.

Cases to date are at 256,266, of which 249,997 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,120.

Nationally, the New York Times is calculating that – over a 14-day period – coronavirus cases have declined by 15 percent, and deaths by 16 percent.

However, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that its count, over a similar period, shows that new coronavirus cases in California have risen by 19 percent and deaths by 34 percent.
