Back in July 1776, patriots wanting freedom from tyranny challenged the world’s mightiest empire with the historic “Declaration of Independence,” asserting that “all men are created equal.” It’s a promise we’ve been trying to live up to ever since, and which citizens of the United States and the world are still defining.
