Special meeting on city manager

MARWAN YOUSSEF became the new city manager of Westminster in February.

A special meeting of the Westminster City Council has been called for Wednesday, July 7 at 10 a.m. for the purposes of evaluating the performance of City Manager Marwan Youssef and getting updates on pending and potential litigation.

After receiving public comments, the council will adjourn to closed session.

Youssef, former public works director and city engineer for Westminster, was appointed to the top administrative position in the city in February.

Controversy followed his selection of former city councilmember and state Assemblyman Tyler Diep for a contract to lobby state and federal agencies for funding for public projects in Westminster.

The council majority objected to Youssef making the decision without consulting them, cancelled the contract and reduced the city manager’s power to spend money without the explicit consent of the council.

At least one councilmember, Tai Do, has called for Youssef’s resignation.

The next meeting of the council is set for Wednesday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
