The rise in confirmed cases of coronavirus in Orange County continues in Monday’s report from the county health care agency.
Monday’s number is 1,351 cases, but since that is a three-day total (Saturday, Sunday and Monday), it’s not directly comparable to earlier one-day sums. However, dividing that number by three gives an average of 450.333 cases per day over that period.
The last daily total on Friday was 431.
There was one death in Monday’s report, and the total of those hospitalized is at 194 (up from 156) and those being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units are at 48 (up from 44).
To date, Orange County has had 262,071 cases of coronavirus, of which 251,082 are considered recovered. The death total is at 5,139.
Nationally, The New York Times is reporting that – over a 14-day period – new cases have risen 170 percent, and deaths are up 20 percent.
In California, the Los Angeles Times’ tally of new cases – over a similar period – is up 247 percent, but deaths are down 8 percent.
