Statistics on the coronavirus – with the exception of deaths – continue to show a resurgence of COVID-19 infections, locally and across the nation.
In Orange County, the health care agencies report today (Wednesday) showed increases in three of four major categories. Confirmed new cases rose to 532 from 453 on Wednesday, hospitalizations increased from 212 to 215 and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units are up from 48 to 56. Deaths declined to zero from one.
To date, there have been 263,056 confirmed cases in Orange County of which 251,271 are considered retired. There have been 5,140 deaths.
Nationally, The New York Times is reporting new cases are up 145 percent over a 14-day period. Deaths have risen by 6 percent.
In California, new cases have increased by 161 percent according to the Los Angeles Times (over a similar period), but deaths have declined 4 percent.
