New cases of coronavirus and related deaths in Orange County each surged in Friday’s report from the county health care agency. But hospitalizations and the use of intensive care units for COVID-19 patients both declined.
According to the OCHCA, new cases climbed to 356 from 304 on Thursday. Deaths increased from eight to 13. However, hospitalizations went from 313 to 308 and ICU use from 87 to 76.
Cases to date are now at 295,227 with 280,238 considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,384.
Nationwide, The New York Times reports that – over a 14-day period – new cases are down 14 percent, with a 29 percent increase in deaths. In California, cases are down 23 percent and deaths are up 2 percent, according to Los Angeles Times, over a similar period.
