Edison High’s football team started Sunset League play impressively Thursday night, defeating Newport Harbor 50-14 at Sheue Field.
Parker Awad passed for three touchdowns and Troy Fletcher rushed for two scores as the Chargers improved their overall record to 4-2. Edison will take on Los Alamitos (5-1) next week in a key battle for the league lead.
Rancho Alamitos (5-1) rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit to defeat Bolsa Grande (3-3) 24-14 in a Garden Grove League opener. Santiago (5-1) bested La Quinta 48-20, setting up a potential league title game with Rancho on Oct. 22.
