The 2021 annual “Trek N Treat Wellness Day” on Sunday brought walkers and watchers to the Medal of Honor Bike and Pedestrian Trail in Garden Grove.

Helping to sponsor the event were Walmart, CalOptima, BPSOS (Center for Community Achievement), a local 7-Eleven and others. It was held from 9 a.m. to noon and encouraged residents to get some exercise and explore the trail, which extends from Nelson Street along the old Pacific Electric right-of-way northwest to Brookhurst Street.

FACEPAINTING was also available on the Halloween day.

Additionally booths and tents were available along the route providing information about a variety of health services. Be Well Orange County, which offers mental health help to the unsheltered was also on hand as well as Moving Forward/Psychological Institute.

A firefighter from the Orange County Fire Authority’s public information office offered safety tips, including a demonstration and instruction on how to use a fire extinguisher. Garden Grove police officers were also present.

Attendees big and small were encouraged to wear Halloween costumes for treats, contests and prizes.

Future plans for the trail involve extending it across Brookhurst and Chapman Avenue to Gilbert Street through to the city’s busiest retail district.
