New cases rise, other stats fall

Three of four major metrics tracking the coronavirus in Orange County showed modest declines in Thursday’s report, while new cases rose slightly.

According to the county health care agency, new cases went from 314 on Wednesday to 316 on Thursday. However, deaths fell from 10 to seven and hospitalizations moved from 206 to 201.

The number of people treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units dropped from 64 to 58.

To date, the number of cases in Orange County is 318,382, of which 305,154 are considered recovered. Deaths now total 5,846.

Nationally, new cases – based on a 14-day average – are up 40 percent and deaths have increased 34 percent, according to The New York Times. In California, new cases have increased 27 percent, but deaths are down 3 percent over a similar period, reports Los Angeles Times.
