DUI checkpoint in HB tonight

 

A DUI/DRIVER’S license checkpoint is scheduled for tonight in Huntington Beach (Shutterstock).

HUNTINGTON BEACH – A checkpoint to monitor for drunk driving and driver’s licenses will be conducted today (Wednesday) in Huntington Beach.

According to the HBPD, the checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. on Thursday at a location within city limits.

Motorists are reminded that “driving under the influence” is not limited to the use of alcohol, but also the abuse of prescription drugs or the use of marijuana/cannabis products while operating a motor vehicle.

In 2020 Huntington Beach police officers arrested over 700 people for driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or a combination of alcohol and drugs.

City Hall closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

GARDEN GROVE – In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, Garden Grove City Hall and the H. Louis Lake Senior Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17.

Street sweeping services will not be provided on the holiday. Street sweeping will resume as scheduled on all other days. Trash pickup will not be interrupted.

Cheer championships are postponed

The 2022 CIF Southern Section Traditional Competitive Cheer Championships originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8 at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Riverside has been postponed.

According to the CIF-SS, about 30 percent of the 101 teams originally planning to participate have dropped out “due to COVID-19 issues” and it was anticipated more would do so.

The event is rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 5, also at MLK High in Riverside.
