Another mixed report card

Statistics on the impact of the coronavirus in Orange County continue to show mixed results.

Friday’s report from the county health care agency showed that confirmed new cases rose from 427 to 453, the third consecutive increase. Deaths remained at 15.

However, hospitalizations fell from 206 to 202 and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units ticked down from 34 to 33.

To date, Orange County has had 540,116 cases, of which 522,984 are considered recovered. The total of deaths is 6,658.

As of Thursday, the OCHCA reports that 2.437 million county residents (out of 3.1 million) are fully vaccinated and that 1.2 million had received booster shots.

Across the U.S., new cases are down 55 percent and deaths by 26 percent – over a 14-day period – according to The New York Times. In California, new cases are down 59 percent and deaths by 11 percent, according to the Los Angeles Times.
