New cases and deaths from coronavirus in Orange County spiked again in Tuesday’s report, continuing the up-and-down nature of such statistics.
According to the county health care agency, confirmed new cases rose to 307, up from Monday’s three-day average of 49.3. Similarly, deaths went to 11 from Monday’s average of 1.3.
Hospitalizations increased from 95 to 98, but the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units dipped from 20 to 17.
To date, Orange County has had 546,751 cases of coronavirus, of which 536,339 are considered recovered. The total of deaths now stands at 6,875.
Nationally, The New York Times reports that – over a 14-day period – new cases are down 11 percent and deaths down 40 percent. In California, new cases have declined 34 percent over a similar period, and deaths by 50 percent, according to Los Angeles Times.
