Oilers advance to NHSI semi’s

HUNTINGTON BEACH defeated Hamilton High of Arizona 2-1 in eight innings to advance to the semifinal round of the National High School Invitational (Shutterstock).

With a 2-1 eight-inning win over Hamilton High of Arizona, the Huntington Beach High team on Thursday advanced to the semifinals of the National High School Invitational tournament in Cary, North Carolina.

After that quarterfinal victory, the Oilers are 14-4 overall.

In other NHSI action involving Orange County teams, Orange Lutheran defeated Basic Academy of Nevada 2-0 in another quarterfinal contest.

Servite beat Buford High of New Jersey 8-1 in a consolation round.

In softball action, Pacifica improved its record to 19-3 by defeating Cypress 3-1 in an Empire League contest. The win puts the Mariners at 4-0 in league play, leading Kennedy (3-1) and Valencia (2-1).

Brynne Nally pitched seven innings for the M’s, yielding six hits and one run while striking out six batters.
