What could be a crucial phase of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine may be about to unfold as the defending Ukrainians “dig in” to oppose expected attacks in the eastern part of their nation.

Associated Press reports that a full-scale offensive could be in the works after Russia’s failure to prevail in its efforts to seize the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv and other key areas.

The new thrusts are seen to be likely in the east where pro-Russian separatist movements have been strong. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy  – in an interview in the CBS “60 Minutes” program urged President Joe Biden to send more military aid to his nation.

United Press International reports that satellite images show a convoy of Russian military vehicles moving in eastern Ukraine, not far from Kharviv, that nation’s second-largest city.

Sports: Not a sunny Sunday for our teams

The first few days of the 2022 Major League Baseball season have not been kind to our local teams. On Sunday, the Angels fell to 1-3 and last in the American League West after a 4-1 loss to the Houston Astros in Anaheim.

The Halos led 1-0 in the early going, but the Astros scored twice in the fifth and the eighth. Jose Suarez made the start and took the loss, working 4.1 innings and giving up two runs on two hits. He struck out two but walked four.

The Dodgers (1-2) tumbled into fourth place in the National League West by losing 9-4 to the Colorado Rockies in Denver. Three Dodgers had two hits but that wasn’t enough to beat the home team with its two two-run homers. Julio Urias, who won 20 games last year, was knocked out of the game after two innings. He yielded six hits and six runs – three earned – and walked two batters while striking out none.

  • Scottie Scheffler won the Masters golf tournament at Augusta National on Sunday with a 10-under par 278.
