Angels, Dodgers keep winning

The Angels and Dodgers each posted shutout wins Monday night.

With its’ 3-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians, the Angels are 10-7 and stayed within a half-game of the first place Seattle Mariners in the American League West.

Taylor Ward hit two home runs and Michael Lorenzen (2-1) pitched six strong innings for the home team in Anaheim. Ward ended up with three RBIs and improved his batting average to .367.  Lorenzen has a 2.93 ERA and has struck out 12 batters and walked just four.

The Angels and Guardians (7-9) will meet again on Tuesday in a 6:38 p.m. contest.

Thanks to its 4-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road, the Dodgers (12-4) maintained their half-game lead over the San Francisco Giants (12-5) in the National League West.

Walker Buehler (2-1) pitched a three-hit shutout complete game for the Blue Crew, striking out 10 and walking none. Will Smith homered for the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks (6-11) will against host the Dodgers Tuesday in a 6:40 p.m. game.

High school sports: Cavs have GGL title

The Santiago High softball team won the Garden Grove League title outright Monday with a 16-9 win over second place Rancho Alamitos at the Cavalier field.

With one game to play, the Cavaliers are 9-0 in GGL play and 11-7 overall. The Vaqueros are 7-2 (14-7 overall).

In another GGL game, La Quinta cemented its third place slot by defeating Los Amigos. Neveah Gomez had three hits and three RBIs. Trish Nguyen had two hits and three RBIs and Amanda Trinh stole four bases.

The Aztecs are 5-4 in league and 14-5 overall.
