Brandon Marsh isn’t a superstar – yet – but he played like one on Thursday as he led the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians in Anaheim. He went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs as the Halos swept all four games against the visitors from Ohio and maintained their position atop the American League West with a 13-7 record.

Taylor Ward also drove in two runs; he’s hitting .381.

Marsh is now batting .340 and leads the team with 15 runs batted in.

The Angels also got a strong pitching performance from starter Reid Detmers (1-1), who worked five innings, yielding just two hits and one run. He struck out four batters and walked one.

Next up for the Halos is a trip to Chicago on Friday to start a series against the White Sox.

The Dodgers (12-6), second place in the National League West, had the day off and will start a series at home on Friday hosting the Detroit Tigers (6-12).

Preps: Empire finales were all about ties

The Pacifica High baseball team finished its regular season with a 4-0 win over Valencia to complete its Empire League season in second place. The possibility of a three-way tie for the title was avoided when Cypress defeated third place Tustin Thursday by 14-0 to get the pennant

The Mariners are 7-3 in league and 19-8. The Centurions are 8-2 and 25-6-2.

In softball, there was a deadlock at the top in the Empire League. The co-leaders – Pacifica and Kennedy, both now 9-1 in league – each won their games to finish in a dead heat for the EL pennant. The M’s are 24-4 overall and the Fighting Irish are 17-10.
