A young girl was attacked and seriously injured by a coyote in Huntington Beach on Friday night.

According to Jennifer Carey, public information officer for the HBPD, the attack took place on the city beach north of the pier at around 9:45 p.m. Arriving officers found the child and she was taken to a local hospital with “serious but non-life threatening injuries.”

The California Department of Fish and Game and HBPD are working together in tracking and euthanizing the animal involved.

Increased trapping efforts have been conducted by police in recent weeks, said Carey. The community is asked to notify police of coyote sightings by calling (714) 960-8811.
