Confirmed new coronavirus cases are continuing to rise in Orange County, as are hospitalizations.
According to the county health care agency, the latest update released Friday – covering April 26-28 – showed new cases up from 1067 to 1071, an increase in the daily average from 266.75 to 357.
Deaths went from seven to 10, and hospitalizations rose from 66 to 76. The count of people being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units rose fell from 13 to 11.
To date, Orange County has had 552,994 cases of coronavirus, of which 540,282 are considered recovered. The death toll is now at 7,007.
Nationally, The New York Times is reporting that – over a 14-day period – new cases are up 50 percent, with deaths down 24 percent. In California, new cases are up 56 percent and deaths down by 7 percent over a similar period, according to Los Angeles Times.
