How would you like to save 18 cents on a gallon on gasoline?
According to The Associated Press, President Joe Biden is mulling the possibility of a “holiday” on federal gas tax of 18.4 cents that’s part of the price consumers pay for motor fuel.
“Yes, I’m considering it,” said Biden. “I hope to have a decision based on the data – I’m looking for by the end of the week.
While allowing consumers to take a break from rising gasoline prices – almost $5 a gallon nationally but over $6 a gallon at some Orange County stations – might ease inflation, it would mean less money later to build and repair highways.
Now, Russia threatens Lithuania
The Baltic nation of Lithuania, once an involuntary part of the defunct Soviet Union, is again getting pressure from the Kremlin.
The New York Times reports that Russia is threatening some kind of retaliation against that nation for refusing the importation through Lithuania of some goods to Kalingrad, a part of the Russian Federation but geographically isolated from it by Polish and Lithuanian territory.
The ban imposed by the European Union was “a violation of everything,” according to a Russian spokesman. However, any military action against Lithuania would require other members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – including the U.S. – to come to its defense.
