In Week Two, some showdowns

WESTMINSTER’S defense shut down La Quinta last week. The Lions take on Los Amigos on Friday. Aztecs will take on Saddleback  (Orange County Tribune photos by Jim Tortolano).

The 2022 high school football season is barely underway and one of the biggest clashes of the schedule is coming up on Friday.

Orange Lutheran (2-0) will visit Edison (2-0) in a pre-league biggie at Cap Sheue Field on the Huntington Beach High campus. The host Chargers are ranked first in  sThe Orange County Tribune’s ladder of schools in our coverage area. They are sixth in the countywide rankings of The Orange County Register. Orange Lutheran’s Lancers are fifth.

In the Los Angeles Times’ rankings for Southern California, OLHS is sixth and  EHS is 19th.

A top Thursday game will pit two 2-0 teams – Cypress and Western – in a contest at Handel Stadium on the WHS campus.

Garden Grove High’s impressive opener – a 61-6 win over Artesia – will make the Argonauts’ season home debut on Thursday at Monsoor Stadium against Santa Ana (0-2) of interest as well.

Pacifica (1-1) has the week off.
