Freight rail deal averts strike

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN (White House photo).

An agreement that averted a threatened freight rail strike is being touted as a good development for President Joe Biden and his Democratic Party.

The Associated Press reports that Biden pressured labor and business to work together to avoid the work stoppage, which threatened to increase inflation.

According to the AP, the deal – which still has to be approved by the various unions involved – would raise pay by 24 percent over five years and make improvements in work schedules and health care.

The deal comes at a time when Biden’s approval ratings have been improving, but still show him “underwater” with those polled disappoving of his performance at 48 percent to 42 percent approving.

FLORIDA GOV. Ron DeSantis (Wikipedia).

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis arranged to have 50 migrants from Venezuela sent to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts in an apparent effort to place the blame for border issues on Democrats.

DeSantis, considered to be a likely candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, confirmed that the state had chartered two planes under a program to “to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” according to United Press International.

In response, local agencies in Massachusetts rallied to provide temporary shelter and food to the migrants, who reportedly did not know their destination.
