AN AWARD of nearly $1 billion in damages was assessed Wednesday against conspiracy theorist Alec Jones (Shutterstock).
Alex Jones, who falsely claimed on radio and the internet that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre that killed 26 people – including 20 children – was a hoax, was ordered Wednesday to pay $965 million in damages to relatives of those killed.
In a separate trial, Jones earlier was ordered to pay $50 million, bringing the total damages assessed against him to over $1 billion.
Jones, who did eventually admit that the incident was real and not performed by “crisis actors,” was defiant in the Connecticut courtroom.
He left calling the proceedings a “show trial” that was “all made up” and product of a left-wing conspiracy.
Sports: Padres win, Ducks, too
The San Diego Padres turned the tables on the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night in Chavez Ravine, winning 5-3 to even up their National League Division Series at one win apiece.
With the score tried at 3-3, the visitors pulled ahead with one run in the sixth and another in the eighth. Most of the scoring was on solo home runs; the Dodgers had three and the Padres three, two by Manny Machado.
The win went to Yu Darvish (1-0), who worked five innings, yielding seven hits and three runs (all on homers). He struck out seven and walked three.
Now, the series switches to San Diego on Friday.
The Anaheim Ducks opened their 2022-23 season with a 5-4 overtime win over the Seattle Kraken Wednesday night at Honda Center.
Troy Terry scored the game-winner 55 seconds into overtime. He ended up with two goals and an assist.
The Ducks are in the Big Apple on Saturday playing the New York Islanders.
Weather: Missed one, didn’t ya?
The “weatherman” (i.e. the National Weather Service) missed the thundershowers and rain that hit the West Orange County area last night and today, so let’s see how good the latest forecast is.
