The possibility of giving pay raises to members of the city council advanced at Tuesday’s meeting of the Stanton City Council.

Councilmember Carol Warren suggested the idea. Currently, councilmembers are paid $850 a month, which is below the Orange County average.

The council reached a consensus and directed city staff to conduct research on the topic adnd return with a staff report.

Another topic on Tuesday’s agenda that didn’t generate as much support was the status of the sale of “safe and sane fireworks” in the the city.

Stanton is one of 10 municipalities in the county where those fireworks – approved by the state fire marshal – can be sold and discharged.

However, after some discussion, the council took no action.
