Big game: Oilers vs. Mustangs

HUNTINGTON BEACH vs. Yorba Linda is the week’s big game (Shutterstock).

The biggest clash of the season – so far – for our West Orange County high school football teams is Friday when the Huntington Beach Oilers (4-0) host the Yorba Linda Mustangs (4-0) at Sheue Stadium.

It’s a non-league contest and the two teams seem evenly matched. The HBHS quarterback is Brady Edmunds, who averages 207 yards a game passing. YLHS is led by Andrew Churney, averaging 317 yards a game in the air.

The top rusher for the Mustangs is Aiden Gutierrez, averaging 65.3 yards a game. Dallas “DJ” Miller averages 69.3 yards a game for the Oilers.

A top receiver for HB is Skylar Robinson, 76.5 yards a game. For YL it’s Connor MacKay with 81 a game.

Most of the games this week are still non-league contests, but there are some Tango League contests involving La Quinta, Bolsa Grande and Magnolia.

The Oilers were knocked out in the semis by Newport Harbor 8-7 in triple overtime. Jserra, another Orange County team, won the title by 21-6 over Newport.
